ACMPE Certification

New in 2019: Log your CEU's on the new MGMA website:

The new ACMPE tracking portal makes it easy to manage your credit hours. Take a moment to review the instructions for steps on how to log in, view and enter your hours.

  • Sign in to mgma.com.
  • Select "My Dashboard" found on the top right corner.
  • Select "ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT" found on the top right corner.
  • Select "ACMPE TRACKING" found on the left side to enter the portal.
  • Click "Full ACMPE Continuing Education Listing" to review your total claimed credit hours and to request altering existing credit hours.
  • Click "Add ACMPE Continuing Education Hours" to claim all qualified hours for ACMPE.

To add hours for MGMA and external sources, click "Claim My Additional Credit".

To claim your completed MGMA webinars and conferences, click "Claim My Attended MGMA Events".

Board Certification

Validate your knowledge and strengthen your skills. Provide physicians, medical practices, hospital systems and the healthcare sector with the kind of effective leadership that brings financial and organizational success. Become a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) and go on to achieve Fellowship in the American College of Medical Practice Executives (FACMPE) to:

  • Validate that you have the knowledge and skills to excel in your field
  • Receive professional recognition as an expert in the healthcare industry
  • Become empowered to lead others toward success

ACMPE board certification is designed for individuals with at least two years of experience in healthcare management. The CMPE credential confirms your expertise and brings greater recognition from physicians, executives, industry professionals and peers.

To apply to the ACMPE board certification program and to work toward obtaining the CMPE credential, you must:

  • Be a current National MGMA-ACMPE member
  • Pay a one-time $250 ACMPE Board Certification application fee
  • In 2019, the requirements to pursue Certification will change.
    • If the nominee has a Bachelor's Degree or 120 college credit hours by Dec. 31, 2018, they will need to
      • Complete the Certification process within two years.
    • If the nominee does not hold a Bachelor's Degree or 120 college credit hours by Dec. 31, 2018, they will need to:
      • Complete and pass both examinations by the Dec 1-15 (2018) exam cycle.
      • Log all 50 hours of continuing education (CE) hours under the current CE requirements, starting 30 days prior to their acceptance date. If their exams are passed, they will receive a 6 month extension to complete their hours by June 31, 2019 under the 2019 continuing education requirements. (This is for members without a Bachelor's Degree who what to achieve Certification by the end of 2018)
      • Submit your completed application form, along with the documentation of two years of healthcare management experience, including at least six months in a supervisory role.

Once MGMA receives your application fee and form and verified your professional experience, they will notify you of your acceptance into the program.

MGMA is offering an incentive to become board certified. If you purchase a MGMA membership and the board certification in one bundle, you save $50!

In 2019 the requirements for CEU's to maintain CMPE or FACMPE will change. You will still be required to meet 50 CEU's to maintain CMPE or FACMPE every 3 years, but no 30 hours must be from MGMA resources (12 hours required from MGMA National or State Face-to-Face events) and 20 additional hours from qualified sources. The Face-to-Face events include MGMA sponsored webinars.

For the activity to meet the criteria for ACMPE continuing education credit hours, it must:

  • Be relevant to the Body of Knowledge for Medical Practice Management
  • Be delivered in a structured learning environment
  • Have an element of interactivity.

To apply to the Fellowship program and work toward obtaining the FACMPE credential, you need to:

  • Be a current National MGMA-ACMPE member.
  • Earn the Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) designation.
  • Pay a one-time $250 Fellowship application fee.
  • Submit your Fellowship program application.
    • For CMPE's who do not have a bachelor's degree or 120 college credit hours by Dec 31, 2018, they will need to receive approval from the Fellowship Committee for a business plan proposal or paper outline and submit a final business plan or manuscript by Dec 31, 2018.
    • For CMPE's who do have a bachelor's degree or 120 college credit hours by Dec 31, 2018, AND two years in a leadership role; OR they have a master's degree with five years management, AND two years in a leadership role, they will need to begin work on the following starting Jan 1, 2019
      • Complete Fellowship within two years of your application date. If accepted before Jan 1, 2019, they will have until Dec 31, 2020 to complete.
      • If they have a paper outline submitted and accepted prior to Jan 1, 2019, they may continue workingon their paper manuscript up until two years from their outline approval date. Starting in 2019, the papers option sunsets and only a business plan can be submitted.
    • Log 50 hours of continuing education (CE) every three years following the new 2019 CE requirements. These CE requirements also apply to maintain their current CMPE credential in 2019.
